Ground Water Resources Development Board

Groundwater resources exploration and identification activities in Nepal started as early as 1967 through a technical unit under the Department of Irrigation. To enhance groundwater study and investigation activities and to delineate potential area for groundwater irrigation development, Government of Nepal (GON) has established Ground Water Resources Development Board (GWRDB) under the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR) in 1976.

Water Resources Research and Development Centre

The ministry of irrigation (MoI) has two departments namely department of irrigation (DoI) and department of water induced disaster management (DWIDM) and one development committee; ground water resources development committee (GWRDC). Government employees under the ministry and offices under it including employees who have direct link with water resources development and management requires short term and medium term training related to their job for their efficient performance and development of professionalism. Currently, MoI does not have such training institute. In the view of importance of such institute and for the research and development works in Water Resource Sector, "Water Resources Research and Development Centre" (WRRDC) with training, laboratory and research facilities under direct supervision of irrigation secretary was established.
